Another week has gone in what stands to be remembered because of the longest year in human history. Much of the planet remains in lockdown to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, while world economies grow stagnant and hover accessible of a possible depression.

Not everything that goes on is about the virus, as there have been several horrible and not-so horrible events that happened this past week. Of course, the virus does touch on most news stories lately, but life goes on, a method or another, as an epidemic continues, and therefore the world watches.

10 Nova Scotia Rampage Left 22 Dead

On Sunday, a person disguised as a policeman went on a shooting rampage across the province of Nova Scotia for quite 12 hours. The rampage spread from one neighborhood out across the province, seemingly choosing victims randomly. The gunman also disguised his vehicle to resemble one driven by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and his victims include a policeman..[1] The rampage stands because the worst the North American nation has ever witnessed, and it wasn’t long before involves stricter gun laws were being made throughout Canada.

The massacre was the largest mass shooting since the 1989 Montreal Polytechnic massacre, which left 14 people dead, and led to a review of Canada’s strict gun control laws. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said new regulations are likely to be on the horizon following the latest shooting, which killed 22 people; The shooter was also killed. No motive was found for the senseless attack, which began at around 10.30 pm on Saturday and continued the next day around noon. The massacre left bodies in the communities of Wentworth, Debert, Shubenacadie/Milford, and Enfield, where police also shot and killed the gunman.[2]

9 Large Companies Bled The Small Business Loan Fund Dry In Two Weeks

The U.S. government recently adopted a COVID-19 stimulus package, which included $349 billion in financing for small business loans.[3] The money was supposed to help small businesses continue to pay their employees while keeping bills at bay, but in less than two weeks, the program ran out of money as of last Thursday. On Monday, we understood how it happened, and it was not the result of a plethora of small businesses; it turned out that some hotel and restaurant chains asked for money, and received it, leaving many small business owners with nothing.

Companies that received money from the program include Shake Shack, Potbelly, and Ruth’s Chris Steak House and another subsidiary of Ruth’s Hospitality Group. The company took $20 million[4] from the fund, while Shake Shack managed to get half of it. Since the news came that large companies, some of which are publicly traded, have exhausted the fund, they have repaid their loans. Shake Shack did so almost immediately, and after constant delaying tactics, Congress was finally ready to pass legislation to increase the fund by an additional $310 billion to ensure that the money came to businesses that really needed it.[5]

8 Pet Cats Aren’t Immune To COVID-19 Infections

Little is known yet about the nature of COVID-19 and its exact origin, but it is known to be a zoonotic virus, which means it can pass from animals to humans and vice versa. It probably comes from the pangolins of a Wuhan food market, but it turns out it can go from a human host to a pet cat, as was confirmed in two separate cases in New York on Wednesday. These two cases are the first known pets in the United States to have tested positive for COVID-19, although they have had mild respiratory diseases and are expected to recover.

The first cat to be tested was diagnosed by a veterinarian after it began showing signs of a mild respiratory infection. None of the people in the house have been confirmed as carriers, so it is not known how the cat came into contact with the virus. The second cat tested positive throughout the city, although another cat from the same house was not infected.[6]This new discovery does not support the conclusion that cats can transmit the virus to humans once they are infected, as this would be a concern, as cats spread to many parts of New York and could be vectors of the disease.[7]

7 Protests Erupt Over Coronavirus Shelter-in-place Orders

As the number of infections begins to decline as a result of the various orders to “stay at home” across the United States, more and more people are defying these orders in protest. Across the country, people left their homes to ask state governments to allow them to return to work, and while some in the crowd wore masks and followed social distancing guidelines, many others did not follow these guidelines. Meanwhile, President Trump tweeted in support of the protesters, calling for the liberation of Michigan, Virginia, and Minnesota.

One media outlet has seen rising tensions such as “America on the brink of insurrection” as tensions continue to rise. Right-wing groups held rallies in Texas, Indiana, New Hampshire, Nevada, Maryland, Utah, Wisconsin, Washington, and Colorado.[8] Although nothing has reached the level of an armed insurgency, defying the state governments’ stay-at-home councils has increased the risk of increased spread of COVID-19. Dan Patrick, the lieutenant governor of Texas, was quoted as saying, “There are more important things than survival” in reference to the nation’s economy, somewhat reflecting his earlier comments on health risk versus economic stability.

6 Deal Extends Netanyahu’s Rule as Rival Accepts Israeli Unity Government

Political unrest in Israel could end following an agreement reached on Monday between Benjamin Netanyahu and his political rival. The agreement between the troubled Prime Minister and his rival, Benny Gantz, came as the two sides united to fight the spread of COVID-19. Israel has been in a political stalemate for more than a year, resulting in three elections that failed to form a government. The new agreement keeps Netanyahu in place as prime minister until 2021, when he will step down in favor of Gantz.

Gantz had been Netanyahu’s challenger, but the agreement to establish a unity government ended the year-long political stalemate, although critics quickly pointed to the film’s advantage over the troubled prime minister. Netanyahu has been targeted by prosecutors who want to remove him from office on corruption charges, which he can fight from a considerable position of strength as a sitting prime minister.[9] Gantz argued that given the public health crisis, this was the only responsible action they could take, saying on Twitter: “We prevented a fourth election. We will preserve democracy. We will fight the coronavirus and take care of all the citizens of Israel.”[10]

5 Oil Market Completely Crashes To Negative Territory

Monday was a historic day in the world of oil trading, as the price of a barrel of crude fell to $0, then continued its fall to -$37.63 per barrel. This is the lowest price for crude oil since NYMEX opened oil futures in 1983. This decline is the result of a massive sale, which took place when customers stopped buying oil because they could not put it up for sale. Storage facilities have been almost completely filled around the world, as more and more people cease their activities due to social distance and remain at home due to the spread of COVID-19.

Last week’s agreement to reduce oil production by 9.7 million barrels per day in May and June may have been the deepest cut the organization has ever accepted, but it was only a drop in the barrel from total production. This decision did not help oil futures at all, as energy requirements continued to fall. President Trump has ordered the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to “put up to 75 million barrels into the reserves themselves” in the hope of repairing the trade deficit. Because the cost of barrels is negative, buyers would be paid to withdraw delivery from producers instead of the other way around.[11]

4 Unconfirmed Study Finds Hydroxychloroquine Has No Benefit

Medical teams around the world have tested the possible effects of hydroxychloroquine as a drug that can help patients with COVID-19, but a study released Tuesday contradicts all the data so far, saying the drug not only offers no benefit in the fight against the disease, but also causes more damage. The study, which was based on a review of Veterans’ medical records, was published in a medical journal and has not yet been peer-reviewed or published in a medical journal. This type of review and formal publication will come later, and further studies are being conducted to determine the efficacy of the drug in the treatment of patients with COVID-19 infections.[12]

The study analyzed 368 patients, 97 of whom had a mortality rate of 27.8% after taking the drug, while the 158 who did not suffer had a mortality rate of 11.4%. “An association of increased overall mortality has been identified in patients treated with hydroxychloroquine alone. These results underline the importance of waiting for the results of the prospective, randomized and controlled studies underway before adopting these drugs on a large scale.” The study was conducted by researchers at the Columbia VA Health Care System in South Carolina, the University of South Carolina, and the University of Virginia.[13]

3 Something May Be Wrong With Kim Jong-Un’s Health

Kim Jong-un, the leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea, is said to be seriously ill, although information on the leader’s health and health has long been ranked higher than that of Top Secret for this traditionally secret nation. The news… or rather, the lack of news about the leader of the rogue nation began to spread after it was reported that he had undergone an unspecified cardiovascular procedure on April 12. He missed an annual celebration of his grandfather, the father of the DPRK, which gave rise to the belief that something could have gone wrong in the leader’s care.

On Tuesday, as rumors of his condition continued to spread on the Internet, President Trump commented. “These are reports that have been published, and we do not know. We don’t know. I had a very good relationship with him. […] I wish him the best of luck. Because if he is in the kind of condition that reports say… it is a very serious condition. (…) If anyone else were in that situation, we would be at war with North Korea right now. And we’re not at war. And we are far from being at war with North Korea.”[14]

2 Iran Successfully Launched Its First Military Satellite

On Wednesday, Iran launched its first military satellite, which the U.S. Space Command confirmed at 4:03 p.m. with a Tweet. The 18th Space Control Squadron tweeted that it was tracking two objects, NOUR 01, the satellite, and the body of the rocket that brought it into a stable orbit. Iran has not remained silent on its success with Iranian state television, reporting that “The first Iranian military satellite, Noor, was launched this morning from central Iran in two stages. The launch was a success and the satellite reached its orbit.”

The satellite was placed 264 miles above the Earth’s surface, according to the Revolutionary Guards, who were responsible for launching the two-stage satellite from Iran’s central desert.[15]At about the same time that news of the launch began circulating on the Internet, US President Trump Tweeted said he had ordered the U.S. Navy to shoot down and destroy all Iranian gunboats if they harass our ships at sea. It is not clear whether the two incidents are related, although tensions between the two nations have increased in recent times. Iranian gunboats regularly harass American ships in international waters off the coast of Iran.[16]

1 YouTube Censoring Videos Not Supported By The WHO

On Wednesday, in an interview with CNN,[17] YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki described the changes to the site’s policy that will result in the removal of all kinds of videos. In particular, she described everything that was “medically unsubstantiated” and gave examples of people claiming that taking vitamin C or turmeric as a possible treatment for COVID-19 was suppressed. It also stated that any information that was not supported by the World Health Organization’s recommendations regarding the virus would be removed from the platform. It goes without saying that the implications of this decision with regard to the Chinese government’s influence within WHO is worrying, given Google’s long-standing past in supporting the Communist government of China against the Chinese people.

YouTube regularly removes videos from the site when they do not comply with the site’s community guidelines. This practice has intensified with the adoption of new policies to ensure that information that may be contrary to Google’s views does not end up on the site or remain on the site. She also gave another example of videos recently removed from the site: those concerning allegations that the new 5G cell towers would spread the virus. Wojcicki did not elaborate on the number of videos removed as part of the new policy changes but acknowledged that these changes were being implemented much more quickly than in the past, which she attributed to the current pandemic.[18]

  1. Thanks for sharing these major events. I did not realize that China had an impact on controlling information on Facebook. Four police officers were killed in an accident involving two drivers presumably on ice after a truck plowed into officers doing a drug test on the Freeway after pulling over a man in a Porsche speeding at 140 km per hour. The driver of the Porsche is in custody after filming one policewoman wedged under the truck dying and crying for help, and being taped ranting at her that all he wanted to do was go home and eat some f—ing sushi and now they’d fed his car. This is the largest death of police officers at a single incident in Victoria. This tragic event and Anzac Day celebrations pushed coronavirus off the front pages of papers. Blue ribbons for police and candles lit in driveways to celebrate valiant soldiers added some color and light in dark times.

    • I know it’s belated, but your sarcastic irony of the grand scheme of things. My apologies on the senseless an appalling loss of 4 of your city’s police officers all at one time, and that some point may eventually shine from their names.
